Derek smiles a little at the sight of Barry eating so eagerly, and he sits down on the edge of the bed. He waits a moment before replying, trying to get his words together. "They had done something to the building. I couldn't track you by scent."
That had been the most frustrating thing. Barry was somewhere, and Derek kept running into dead ends. His nose was useless.
"There was this guy-- Coulson. He assembled sort of a team, I guess," Derek says with a shrug. "He figured out where everyone was, and we took it over."
He looks up at Barry with obvious shame in his eyes, and bites his lip before speaking. "I should have done more. I should have gotten you out sooner."
