Derek doesn't want to hear this, but at the same time he feels like he needs to know. But really, it doesn't matter what he wants. Barry obviously needs to get this out, and Derek will listen to every single word. He winces slightly and reaches out to put his hand on Barry's thigh through the blankets, squeezing reassuringly. Derek has been tortured, more than once even, and he's had to fight when he didn't want to. But what Barry went through sounds so much worse.

"I'm sorry that happened," Derek says thickly, and it isn't enough. Nothing he could ever say will be enough. "It's over now, and you're safe now. You didn't let them break you."

He moves closer, touching Barry's cheek and kissing his forehead. "I wish I could promise never to let anything hurt you again, but I can't do that. But I do promise to do my best to keep you safe."
