Patrick has learned to say nothing about clothes that maybe David shouldn't be wearing (because it's not like he knows, having absolutely zero fashion experiences outside of his midrange denim and his comfortable button-downs). Instead, he keeps an eye on Derek, not really knowing him enough to know whether he can argue that self-assessment.
