"The store is closed right now, we can go," Luke says with a huff of laughter as he gets up from the chair. It's strange, but he can feel himself responding to Derek's energy, to the brightness in him that's really only present in teenagers. There are people in his life in Darrow who are younger than him, but no one really close to Clary and Simon's age and it's a bit of a surprise to discover just how much he's missed that presence in his life. There's just something different about them, something that fades with age, and for the moment anyway, Derek has that back.
"It's a..." He hesitates as he looks for the keys to his truck, then shakes his head. "You told me once, but I can't remember. It eats anything apparently, so at least we don't need to worry about it starving to death by accident."
He spots his keys on the counter near the front door and grabs them, then nods to Derek. "We'll drive so we don't have to carry that cat all the way back here." Cats don't really like Luke, but he can deal with it for a little while.
