"Fair enough," Derek replies, feeling faintly embarrassed as he takes the sandwich from Thomas' lap and puts it in on the table. He just remembered how hungry he had been in that other place, so hungry that it was a gnawing ache in his stomach painful enough to keep him up at night. He just wants to make sure that everyone he cares about has enough to eat.

"Oh," Derek tells him, looking over at him. He wonders if maybe Thomas didn't want to be alone either, and he furrows a brow slightly. "You're welcome at my place too, if you ever want company."
