"I know you're not," Derek says with a fond laugh. He leans back against the sofa with a sigh, balancing his plate against his chest while he eats. Jinx paws at his head and Derek smiles, reaching back to give her a small piece of turkey. The puff squeaks jealously from somewhere and Derek rolls his eyes, throwing another piece in its general direction.

"Now I'll have to take you on a date," Derek says after a moment, leaning over to press their shoulders together. He and Kate hang out, but they've never really planned to do anything. And that's what friends do, right? Derek is still kind of learning/ "I bought a new shirt and everything, so Newt will just have to deal."
